DRILLING CHEMICALS
Drilling deeper, longer and more challenging wells has been made possible
by improvements in drilling technologies including more effective drilling fluids. Our specialty products effectively deal with problems that can arise while drilling.
These fluids will reduce torque and drag, free stuck pipe, halt lost circulation,
prevent differential sticking, promote well-bore stability and ensure the correct .

 DRILLING FLUID FUNCTIONS
The main functions of drilling fluids include:
~ Cool and lubricate the drill bit
~ Remove the rock fragments, or drill cuttings, from the drilling area and transport them to the surface.
~ Counterbalance formation pressure to prevent formation fluids
(such as oil, gas, and water) from entering the well prematurely ,which can lead to a blowout.
~ Prevent the open (uncased) well-bore from caving in.
~ Control corrosion.
~Seal permeable formations.

DRILLING FLUID ADDITIVES

Drilling Muds

Drilling fluids also referred as drilling muds are
one or more specific functions. However, Some wells require that different types of drilling
fluids be used at different parts in the hole, or that some types be used in combination with
others.
materials added to a drilling fluid to perform.
There are several types of drilling fluids used depending on the drilling conditions encountered. The various types of fluid generally fall into two broad categories: Water Based Mud (WBM) and Oil Based Mud (OBM).

Water Based Mud

WBM

Water Based Mud: is a drilling work fluid which
water or saltwater is the major liquid phase as well
as the wetting (eternal) phase. Basically water-
based mud system begins with water, then clays
and other chemicals are incorporated into the
water to create a homogenous blend resembling
something between chocolate milk and a malt
(depending on viscosity).
The most common of these is bentonite. Many
other chemicals (e.g. potassium formate) are also
added to a WBM system to achieve various
effects, including: viscosity control, shale stability,
enhance drilling rate of penetration, cooling and
lubricating of equipment.

Oil Based Mud

OBM

Oil-based mud can be a mud where the base fluid is a petroleum product such as diesel
fuel. Oil-based muds are used for many reasons, some being increased lubricity
enhanced shale inhibition (which is critical when drilling horizontal shale formations to be
multi-stage racked, and greater cleaning abilities with less viscosity. Oil-based muds also
withstand greater heat without breaking down .
